Sparsh Campaign: DHS to hold Gramsabhas for Leprosy Awareness

Jan 30- The Sparsh Leprosy Awareness Campaign will be held in Goa from January 30 to February 13, 2025 to create awareness and address the stigma and discrimination associated with Leprosy among the general public. All the Health centres under DHShave been asked to organize Gram Sabhas in collaboration with other departments such as Panchayat Raj Institutions, Rural development, Urban development, Women & Child development and social justice & empowerment. Additionally, Information, Education and Communication (IEC) activities will be conducted over the fortnight. Goa remains a Low Endemic state for leprosy, with a prevalence rate of less than one case per 10,000 population. Between April and December 2024, 51 new cases of the bacterial disease were reported, including one child case. Currently, 91 individuals are undergoing treatment.
