Digital Goa, August 18 – Expressing concern over the declining number of Goan students applying for professional courses in the state, CM Pramod Sawant announced that from the next academic year, a special cell will be set up under the Directorate of Technical Education(DTE) to guide students on NEET and JEE. Sawant noted that 30% of seats in engineering colleges have been going vacant in recent years, while Goan students are not applying for all-India merit seats in medicine, leading to outsiders filling them. He also pointed out that despite 50% reservation in IITs and NITs for Goan students, very few apply. The CM urged students to take full advantage of available scholarships and interest-free loan facilities through the CM Scholarship Portal. He further informed that in future the government will make provisions through the Portal to cover NEET and JEE fees of needy students.
