Jan 30 – Commencing the academic year in April will help make the month of April academically productive for students and also remove imbalance between the number of instructional days in both the terms, informed Secretary Education Prasad Lolienkar. He said that as per the prevailing pattern also students had to come to school in April but as their exams end by then, these are not instructional days and their time in school becomes unproductive. He further assured that the holiday dates specially with reference to Chaturthi, Christmas etc will not be changed. Lolienkar also pointed out that Central board’s like CBSE, ICSE start their academic year from April while other state boards like Maharashtra, Mizoram etc have decided to start their academic year from April. He informed that the adjustments have been made in view of NEP because school timings cannot be changed in Goa as most schools are utilising morning and evening sessions for different groups such as elementary, high school etc. A meeting of school headmasters has been called on Friday in this regards to discuss the matter, he added.
