Street Providence hands over 30 shelter home residents to govt after repeated appeals for financial assistance

Digital Goa, August 25 – NGO Street Providence on Monday handed over 30 residents from its male shelter home — including mentally challenged persons and those rescued from the streets — to the Social Welfare Department at Azad Maidan in Panaji. The department later placed them under the care of the Institute of Public Assistance (Provedoria). Street Providence, had earlier appealed for government support and alerted that if no help was forthcoming, it would be compelled to hand over residents to the state due to financial crunch. All 30 were moved to Provedoria’s Candolim home in police vehicle late evening today.
