Stringent provisions to be introduced in Labour Act to deter companies from advertising in other states: Babush

July 24 – Govt will amend the Labour act to increase the penalty for companies based in Goa who advertise for staff in other states, informed Minister Babush Monserrate. Presently, the penalty is a paltry Rs 500. Babush said the penalty will be increased to Rs 10,000 and Rs one lakh and there will be also provision for imprisonment. The two companies who advertised in other states were issued show cause notices and cases were filed against them in JMFC, he said. The minister also said that his Department is also exploring of a State amendment to the Central Act “The Employment Exchanges (Compulsory Notification of Vacancies) Act, 1959”, to bring more stringent mechanism of ensuring compliance by various companies/ firms.
