Digital Goa, July 17 – Sugarcane farmers blocked national highway at Darbandora this evening demanding immediate restart of Goa’s lone government owned Sanjivani Sugar Factory. Highway was later cleared after detaining the farmers. Sugarcane farmers are facing hardships as the only sugarcane factory is closed by govt four years back citing mounting losses and promising setting up of ethanol production unit at the site. Sugarcane farmers had several rounds of talks with the govt and CM Pramod Sawant in the past. Today several farmers have been protesting at Sugar factory site since morning. Long queues of vehicles were seen on both sides of the road due to blockade of road. Police detained the protesting farmers to clear the road.
