Digital Goa, July 6 – Supreme Court has dismissed as withdrawn a Special Leave Petition (SLP) challenging the Bombay High Court’s order directing the removal of an unauthorized statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj erected on Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) land at Headland Sada Junction in Vasco. A vacation bench of the apex court allowed the petitioners to withdraw the petition while granting them liberty to approach the Bombay High Court at Goa seeking modification of its earlier order.
The High Court had, in April 2026, directed authorities to provide police protection to the MPA for the removal of the statue and pedestal after the port alleged that the structure had been erected on its land without permission. With the SLP withdrawn, the High Court’s removal order continues to remain in force, subject to any fresh application before the High Court.
