Aug 12 – Talathis have been asked to ensure that that inspection and reporting exercise related to hill cutting and other works within their jurisdiction which lead to environmental damage must be carried out in continuous manner including on Saturdays, Sundays and on Holidays. Talathis have also been asked to submit a consolidated report regarding the illegalities to the Collector immediately thereafter. “The compliance with these directions is mandatory and will be closely monitored. Failure to act promptly and diligently may result in disciplinary action,” warns a circular issued by South Goa Collector and Chairperson of District Disaster Management Authority A Asvin Chandru. CM Pramod Sawant had announced last week that the onus of reporting about such activities within their jurisdiction is on the talathis. Incidentally, it has been observed that such illegal activities are generally taken up on weekends and holidays to avoid immediate action by the authorities.
