Aug 9 – Talathis will have to ensure that no hill cutting takes place in areas under their jurisdiction. In case they come to know of any hill cutting works, they will have to intimate the collector. If Talathis fail to report such incidents, they will be held responsible for illegalities in any, informed CM Pramod Sawant today. Special cells comprising of Collectors, Police Inspectors, Talathis will be constituted. Upon intimation about hill cutting, the cell will immediately go to the concerned site and stop the hill cutting work. Verification about the work will be done after that, he said. Conceding that viral video of hill cutting had aroused the govt from slumber, Sawant said, “We have not worked at the speed with which we should have done after 2022. Now our disaster management team will work at full speed.” We will take necessary precautionary measures to ensure that such incidents are not repeated in Goa, he added. Policy decisions and fund provisions will also be made, he assured.
