Digital Goa, May 12 – Tribal Welfare Minister Ramesh Tawadkar on Tuesday said the bill on political reservation for Scheduled Tribes in Goa can be implemented immediately if directions are issued by PM Narendra Modi or Union Home Minister Amit Shah, adding that there are no hurdles from the state government or CM Pramod Sawant. Tawadkar made the statement after meeting a delegation of Mission Political Reservation, which had sought an update on the issue and had warned a day earlier of intensifying its agitation if no solution emerged in the coming days. While admitting there had been delays in moving the proposal forward, Tawadkar said, CM Pramod Sawant has agreed to lead a delegation comprising government representatives and tribal leaders to meet Shah. “There is a Cabinet meeting on Friday. When I meet the Chief Minister, I will remind him and request that an appointment be fixed,” he said. Tawadkar expressed confidence that once directions are received from the Center, there would be no more hurdles. He said if an ordinance notification is issued by June, the follow-up process could take around three months, allowing the legislation to be in force before the 2027 Goa Assembly elections.
