Digital Goa, Nov 28 – Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC) has initiated the process to select a contractor for the collection, segregation and transportation of solid waste from national highways, state highways and district roads across the state. The tender outlines highway waste-clearing coverage across three zones — North (129 km per day), Central (155 km per day) and South (135 km per day). The contractor will be responsible for clearing litter up to 10 metres on either side of the road, segregating wet and dry waste, and transporting it to authorised facilities at Saligao, Cacora or the biomedical waste centre at Kundaim. The agency will be required to deploy manpower and GPS-enabled pickup vehicles, with workers also mandated to carry GPS-linked identification wearables. Waste will have to be collected in QR-coded bags to track quantity and location, with real-time monitoring enabled through a GWMC mobile app.A minimum of one worker for every 4km stretch and one covered pickup vehicle per 35km will be mandatory, along with a quick response team for emergency clearance. The tender also specifies financial, labour and operational criteria, along with penalties for uncleared black spots, missed cleaning schedules and spillage during transport. Govt has also proposed heavy penalty to the tune of Rs 5,000 per uncleared black spot, Rs 1,000 per km per day for missed schedule and Rs 2,500 per instance of garbage/leachate spillage during transportation.
