Digital Goa, Feb 19 – Tense situation prevails at Sao Jose de Areal in Salcete over the installation of Shivaji maharaj statue in the open fields. Social Welfare Minister Subhash Phaldessai, who came to inaugurate the statue, was attacked by the crowd with mud when he was leaving the venue. Police resorted to lathi charge in which few locals received minor injuries. Large crowd has gathered at the site to oppose the installation of statue of Shivaji maharaja. Speaking to media, local panch said that the statue was installed without taking locals and panchayat into confidence. She also alleged that the construction is done illegally and that some ‘outsiders’ are involved in the installation of statue in their village.
