Digital Goa, Aug 8 – High voltage situation was witnessed at Mardol police station today evening as irate crowd of hundreds of people demanded immediate arrest of Meghna Sawardekar, who they claimed was driving Mercedes car involved in Banastari accident. Crowd dispersed after police reportedly assured them to arrest Meghna by tomorrow morning as law doesn’t permit a woman to be arrested after 5 pm. People threatened to storm Mardol police station again tomorrow afternoon if arrest was not effected. Activists and locals charged that Mardol police are compromised in this case and are trying to protect a politically connected person. Some speakers alleged that the accused woman is protected because she is a relative of a cabinet minister. Crowd demanded to see the face of Paresh Sawardekar lodged in police lock up to confirm that he is the same person. Police allowed few close relatives of Fadate family to verify his identity. DySP Ashish Shirodkar was bombarded with questions over the alleged sloppy investigations and for not arresting and conducting alcohol test of the woman even 50 hours after the accident.
