Three-day Assembly session draws Opposition flak

Digital Goa, July 30 – Goa Legislature Secretariat has notified a three-day Monsoon Session of the State Legislative Assembly from August 31 to September 2, drawing sharp criticism from the Opposition, which had sought a session of at least 15 days. According to the notification, the Fourteenth Session of the Eighth Goa Legislative Assembly will be held on August 31, September 1 and September 2. The Secretariat has also issued the schedule for tabling starred and unstarred questions, with MLAs required to submit notices by August 6, 7 and 8 through the e-Assembly system or in paper form. Leader of the Opposition Yuri Alemao strongly criticised the government’s decision, alleging that the short session undermines democratic functioning. “Curtailing the duration is the curtailment of democracy. We condemn this utter disregard for the burning issues of the people of Goa,” Alemao said.
