Three more held in Cuchelim Communidade land scam

Digital Goa, July 11- Mapusa Police held three more accused in the Cuchelim Communidade land scam involving the illegal sale of land earmarked for a multi-religious crematorium. The trio — Raja Anthony, Sumit Fadte, and Raju Mandrekar have been accused by a woman of allegedly selling part of the land fraudulently and collecting around Rs 9.75 lakh from unsuspecting buyer. Earlier in November 2024, police had arrested three others — Ravi Chavan, Shakil Sheikh, and Ramesh Rao — in connection with the case. Around 140 families were allegedly cheated in the scam. Lakhs of rupees were taken from each of the families on the pretext of selling them the land. The accused group also facilitated power and water connections to the houses built on the land. Several houses constructed on the land were demolished by the government as illegal structures.
