July 30 – Goa govt has made an application before the High Court seeking more time to settle rights of the forest dwellers in notified areas of Mhadei Wild Life Sanctuary. The application is in context with the ruling given by the High Court in July last year to declare the Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary and surrounding protected areas as Tiger Reserve. High court had given one year time to Goa govt to settle the rights of forest dwellers. As the one year time period is coming to an end, Goa govt has sought for extension in time. Meanwhile, Goa govt’s case challenging the High Court’s Tiger reserve declaration order is scheduled to come for hearing on August 14 as per status given on the apex court website. In view of this High Court has adjourned the matter beyond Aug 14.
