Digital Goa, Mar 21 – Forest Minister Vishwajeet Rane stated that he has provided information on the Tiger Reserve issue in response to a Legislative Assembly Question (LAQ) in the oncoming session of the state assembly. On the government’s plan to challenge the High Court’s reading down of Section 17(2) of the TCP Act, he said the decision would be made in consultation with the govt and legal experts.
Reacting to protests demanding his removal over land conversions, Rane said, “I am a strong leader, so I am being targeted.” He affirmed that Sections 39A and 17(2) would remain but declined to comment on status of past land conversions. Regarding opposition leader Yuri Alemao’s challenge to name leaders whose lands were converted under 17(2), Rane said the Assembly is the right forum for such queries.
