Digital Goa, June 17 – The Tillari Inter-State Irrigation Project is proposed to be revived by spending Rs 330 crore. A decision to this effect was taken in the 6th Interstate Control Board Meet of Tillari Irrigation Project, in Mumbai today. The meeting of the board which was held after almost over a decade, was attended by CM Pramod Sawant, Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde, Water Resource Minister Subhash Shirodkar, Dy CM Devnedra Fadnavis and other Board Members. As 30 to 35 years have already elapsed since the construction of the project and leakages have started occurring in the canals at several places, it was decided by both the states to take up the revival work. “Goa and Maharashtra agreed on multiple issues on repairs and maintenance of canals,” informed CM Sawant.
▪️ Tillari dam height likely to be increased
Discussion also took place about increasing the height of the Tillari dam. It was decided to conduct a comprehensive study of the dam and submit a report in this regards. It was also decided to set up a joint office for canal rehabilitation and management at the Tillari project site.
▪️ Goa & Maharashtra can come together and work for mutual benefit: Shinde
Our thoughts are similar, so Maharashtra and Goa can come together and do lot of work for mutual benefit, opined Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde. Goa is like a younger brother to Maharashtra, he asserted.
▪️ 22 project affected families to get compensation of Rs 5 lakh each
Sawant also informed that 22 families rehabilitated during construction of the dam, are yet to receive compensation of Rs 5 lakh each. The compensation will be paid to them after following the due process, he added.
Of the 21.93 TMC capacity of the project, 16.10 TMC is used by Goa and remaining 5.83 by Maharashtra. The project mainly provides drinking water to North Goa district. 73.3 % of the total cost is paid by Goa while the remaining 26.7 % is Maharashtra’s contribution.
Incidentally, two days back Goa government has notified constitution of Command Area Development (CAD) Board to advise the Government in all matters pertaining to Command Area Development of the Tillari Irrigation Project in the State.
