Tourism Dept demolishes beach encroaching portion of romeo lane property

Digital Goa, December 9 – Tourism Department has begun demolishing a portion of the property encroaching on the beach, belonging to the owner of Birch by Romeo Lane at Vagator. Only the 198 sq m area of the controversial Romeo Lane restaurant that encroaches on the beach will be demolished, while the main structure located on private land will not be touched for now, said a Tourism Department official overseeing the demolition. The demolition of the mostly wooden structure began this evening with a JCB, in the presence of police. Interestingly, the same structure had been demolished earlier this year by the Tourism Department, but was reconstructed again, showing scant regard for government authority. This property belongs to the same owner whose other establishment was involved in the major fire tragedy that claimed 25 lives.
