Digital Goa, Mar 7 – If transport vehicles fail to install working speed governors within one month from today i.e. by April 7, strict actions including impounding of vehicles and cancelling of licences will be initiated against them, warned Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho. “No question of relaxation or doing away with the rule. Speed governors are mandated under Central Motor Vehicle Act,” he asserted.
▪️ Speed Governor dealers overexploit vehicle owners
The minister conceded that enough number of speed governors are not available in the market and dealers overexploit the customers and charge upto Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 for a device which is available for around Rs 2,000. Due to this the vehicle owners will be given the liberty procure the device from any dealer of their choice including those outside the state, Mauvin added. However, when asked if govt plans to take action on overcharging dealers, he said that it was not the job of the transport dept.
No new licences and permissions have been granted to rent-a-car and rent-a-bikes for the past two years, he informed. Informing that there is pressure on giving such licences to rent-a-bikes as certain areas have not be covered, he said govt will audit the situation and take a broad policy decision in the matter. As regards taxi meters not being used, Mauvin said govt is abreast of the matter and will take a call on the same in due course of time.
