Nov 15 – Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested one more assistant account officer of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) in Panaji, Pankaj Kumar. Assistant account officer Atul Wani was arrested Friday for allegedly accepting a bribe to process a contractor’s overdue payments. Kamlakant Chaturvedi, proprietor of Manpower Service in Socorro, had filed a complaint with the CBI on Wednesday, alleging that Kumar and his associates demanded a bribe of Rs 2 lakh to clear seven months of unpaid invoices for services provided to the Income Tax Department. Chaturvedi had said that payments were unjustifiably withheld for months, prompting him to approach the authorities. CBI had laid trap with Chaturvedi’s help and nabbed the two officers from Patto.
