Two including Mapusa Municipality worker arrested in Cuchelim land scam

Nov 20 – Two of the six alleged accused in Cuchelim Communidade land scam case have been arrested by Mapusa police. The accused are identified as Ramesh Rao who allegedly works for Mapusa Municipality and one Shakil Sheikh. Around 140 houses had mushroomed in the land acquired by the govt from Cuchelim Communidade and a private party to set up multi religion burial and cremation facility. The residents had named the 6 accused in their complains. As per the residents, the accused had taken money from them and allocating the land to them. Incidentally, govt has already demolished several illegal houses in the area and show cause notice has been issued by administrator of Communidade to several others for alleged encroachment and illegal construction.
