Unite opposition grills govt over National Games Expenditure; demand inquiry

Digital Goa, Feb 7- United opposition today grilled the govt over Rs 975 crores expenditure on National Games. As per the papers laid on the table of the house the total expenditure incurred has been pegged at Rs 975 crore. Of this Rs 349 crore has been spent on organisational events and Rs 573 crore on infrastructure, in 3 phases – Phase I – Rs 317 crores, Phase II- Rs 152 crore and Phase III – Rs 104 crore. Rs 23 have been spent on opening and closing ceremony of the 37th national games, Rs 23 crore on promotional events and Rs 5.35 crores on advertisements. Opposition demanded inquiry through a retired high court justice in the exorbitant expenditure. Replying to the opposition benches, Sports Minister Govind Gaude said that Rs 573 crore spent on infrastructure is from 2014 till date and the infrastructure was also used for Lusophone games in 2014. Rs 445 crore was the expenditure for project plus organisation of which Rs 261 crore have been paid and Rs 184 are balance.
