Feb 17 – Margao Principal District and Sessions Court has sentenced 34-year-old Vikat Bhagat to rigorous life imprisonment for the 2017 murder of an Irish-British national Danielle McLaughlin in Canacona. In addition, he has been awarded another term of rigorous life imprisonment for raping the victim. Vikat, a petty criminal has been awarded the sentences for raping and murdering Danielle at Palolem in Goa in March 2017. Sessions judge Kshama Joshi had on Feb 14 convicted Vikat Bhagat under Indian Penal Code’s sections 376 (rape), 302 (murder) and for destruction of evidence.
