Aug 12 – Goa Government has decided not to pursue the four Environmental Clearances(EC) that were issued in 2021 by the GSEIAA(Goa State Environment Impact Authority) for sand mining to the District Collector, North Goa for four stretches along the River Chapora as they were issued without the District Survey Report (DSR), National Green Tribunal was told by Advocate General of Goa today. Government is now preparing a DSR as required by law under the sustainable sand mining guidelines and fresh applications for ECs will be made thereafter, NGT was further informed by AG. The Green Tribunal was today hearing the appeal (No.38/2021) filed by the Goa River Sand Protectors’ Network against GSEIAA’s Environmental Clearances for sand mining in various zones of the state. In view of the statement from Goa govt, NGT disposed of the appeal.
