Digital Goa, June 10 – A 19-year-old youth, identified as Amrit Pammar, a native of Ramdurg, Karnataka who was residing at Zuarinagar, is feared to have drowned in a water-filled abandoned well near Birla Estate at Zuarinagar on June 10, afternoon. According to preliminary information, Amrit had gone to the site along with a group of 15 to 20 friends for a swim. While the others were swimming in the well, Amrit, who reportedly did not know how to swim, was holding on to a rope when he is believed to have slipped into the water and disappeared. Amrit had reportedly arrived in Goa around 15 days ago.The incident was reported at around 2.30 pm, following which personnel from the Fire and Emergency Services rushed to the spot and launched a search operation. Officials said the well is approximately nine metres deep and that search operations have been hampered by thick sludge at the bottom, where the youth’s body is suspected to be trapped. Personnel from the Fire and Emergency Services, Drishti Lifesavers and the Disaster Management Cell were engaged in the ongoing search operation till late evening.
