Meeting of mining firm officials with Mulgao villagers remains inconclusive

Jan 27- Officials from mining Company Vedanta Sesa Goa held meeting with Mulgao villagers today over the issue of restarting of mining. The meeting however remained inconclusive. The villagers held a public meeting at Devi Kelbai Temple yesterday.Villagers have urged the mining company and the govt to sort out the issues raised by them first and then restart mining. Their demands include – proper demarcation of mining lease, village and buffer zone boundaries, excluding houses, temples, fields, lakes and plantations from lease boundaries, payment of long pending compensation to farmers, payment of lease rent to Mulgao Communidade, desilting of lake and building of protection wall. Vedanta Sesa Goa on their behalf said that they are committed to resolving all outstanding issues within the ambit of law and are cognisant of the concerns raised by the Mulgao community. “We have been proactive in addressing compensation issues and request concerned entities to share the long pending details we have sought and which will help bring closure to the matter,” the company claimed. “We want to emphasize that all matters raised by the community are being carefully considered, and we are focused on achieving a swift conclusion,” Vedanta added.
