Jan 28- Decision by the family of 25-year-old accident victim who was declared brain dead, to donate his organs has given a new lease of life to 5 persons. Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh native Govind Yadav who worked as a labourer at a construction site at Bicholim was seriously injured in hit-and-run accident and was admitted to GMC for treatment. The family decided to donate his organs after he was declared brain dead by GMC doctors. Accordingly, his kidneys were transplanted into two women, aged 35 and 36, at GMC Hospital. His heart was allocated to a 55-year-old man at H N Reliance Foundation Hospital in Mumbai, while his liver went to a 39-year-old man at Zydus Hospital in Ahmedabad. His lungs were allocated through the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO) to Apollo Hospital in Delhi. The transportation of the organs was facilitated through three green corridors established by SOTTO Goa, the Goa Police Traffic Cell, EMRI 108, and airport authorities. The heart and liver were transported via Mopa Airport , while the lungs were taken via Dabolim Airport for onward delivery. Health Minister Vishwajit Rane has announced financial aid to support the education of the deceased man’s children. This is the sixth instance of organ donation of brain dead patient at GMC Hospital.
