Digital Goa, Apr 20 – Fruit traders at Mapusa Sub-Yard, have reiterated their demand for the setting up of a large-capacity ripening chamber within the market premises. Currently, there are seven small-scale ripening chambers in the sub-yard, but traders say these are insufficient to meet the growing demand. Goa Agricultural Marketing Board has already submitted a DPR to the Central Government to modernize the wholesale agri-markets in which a100-ton capacity ripening chamber has been proposed along with other facilities. Incidentally, the market sub yard was raided by FDA few days back and large quantity of allegedly artificially ripened fruits were seized.
