Plane crashes in Ahmedabad, rescue operations underway

An Air India plane — AI 171 (Ahmedabad-London) crashed in the Meghaninagar area near Ahmedabad airport on Thursday (June 12, 2025) afternoon, Gujarat police said. The Air India flight was bound for London and the incident took place shortly after takeoff at the Ahmedabad airport. As per preliminary reports, the aircraft with 242 passengers crashed in a densely populated area near the airport. Immediately post the crash, local residents rushed to the area to help with rescue efforts. The plane allegedly caught fire after crashing and fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the blaze, said fire officer Jayesh Khadia. Several injured passengers are being shifted to the nearby hospitals. Further details are awaited.
