Digital Goa, June 12 – Goa government has revised the rural improvement and welfare cess on beverages packaged in plastic containers under the Goa Rural Improvement and Welfare Cess Act, 2000. As per a notification issued by the Directorate of Transport, a cess of Rs 0.50 per litre will now be levied on packaged water, soft drinks, PET bottle soda, and other beverages sold in plastic bottles or sachets for human consumption. Earlier, the cess was charged at Rs 0.50 per bottle or sachet, irrespective of volume. The revised volume-based structure is expected to ensure fairer taxation and better reflect actual consumption.
