Digital Goa, July 22 – National Green Tribunal (NGT) has quashed the April 8, 2024 order of the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) that had directed demolition of structures belonging to traditional fisherfolk within 30 days. The tribunal ruled that such structures are permissible under CRZ 2011, which allows construction for traditional coastal communities between 100–200 metres from the High Tide Line (HTL). The NGT noted the need for fisherfolk to store nets and canoes and found merit in the appeal by Rama Ladu Govekar and others. The matter has been remanded to GCZMA for fresh hearing. The tribunal’s order on July 14 was uploaded on its portal today.
