Digital Goa, July 29 – The government will immediately initiate action against illegal overseas recruitment agencies flagged by legislators in the House today, assured CM Pramod Sawant. Responding during a Zero Hour mention by Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar, Sawant informed the Assembly that in the past three and a half years, the Goa government has filed 15 criminal cases against such agencies and arrested 15 individuals involved in fraudulent overseas recruitment activities. He further urged Goan youth to approach only the nine recruitment agencies in the state that are officially registered and recognised by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). Amonkar highlighted how several youth are being misled and taken abroad through the dangerous “donkey” or “dunki” route, often after paying lakhs of rupees, and are then subjected to severe hardships. Other MLAs also cited similar cases in their constituencies and called on the government to take strict action. The House also urged the state government to request the Centre to set up a sub-office of the Protector of Emigrants in Goa, as the state currently falls under the jurisdiction of the Karnataka office.
