Carrying capacity study for villages under consideration, House told

Digital Goa, August 6 – Goa government will consider conducting a carrying capacity study of rural areas so that more informed decisions can be taken on mega projects in villages the house was told today. Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho told the Assembly that he will put up a proposal in this regards and also involve other departments in assessing the capacity of each village panchayat across the state. The assurance came during question hour following concerns raised by Aldona MLA Carlos Ferreira over unchecked mega projects in villages disrupting the village life and demographics. Godinho acknowledged that panchayats currently have limited powers and suggested the development of guidelines for panchayats based on factors like population, khazan lands, fields, and village strata to determine project viability.
