Supreme Court upholds seniority of 2002-batch Goa Police Inspectors; IRB plea dismissed

Digital Goa, December 5 – Supreme Court has dismissed a Special Leave Petition (SLP) filed by the 10 Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) regarding seniority of Police Inspectors in Goa. The ruling upholds High Court judgment which recognised seniority rights of the 2002 batch Inspectors and directed that all consequential service benefits be retained. The dispute dates back to changes made by the Police Establishment Board, which placed the petitioning Inspectors below officers from the IRB, despite the petitioners having joined service as Police Sub-Inspectors in 2002 and being promoted as Police Inspectors on an ad hoc basis in 2011. A revised seniority list issued in March 2023 triggered the legal challenge.
