High Court converts plea on Birch by Romeo Lane into suo motu case

Digital Goa, Dec 15 – The High Court has converted the private petition concerning the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub into a suo motu petition, observing that illegal commercial structures are at the root of the problem. The court noted serious lapses by authorities, specially local bodies, in taking action against illegal constructions and in granting licences to such structures. Advocate Rohit Braganza D’Souza has been appointed as amicus curiae in the matter. The next hearing has been scheduled for January 8. The court has issued directions to identify the specific legal provisions and pinpoint as to who bears ultimate responsibility and accountability in such cases. The Court has also directed the Goa govt to fix the responsibilities and submit its statement in the matter.
