Digital Goa, Jan 2 – Retired Justice Ferdino Rebello has called for a public meeting to initiate a People’s Movement to protect Goa from environmental and structural degradation. The meeting will be held on January 6 at 3.30 pm at the Institute Menezes Braganza (Big Hall), Panaji. It follows strong public response to Justice Rebello’s recent social media appeal on the destruction of Bhangarachem Goem , which triggered wide media attention and public debate. The agenda includes discussion on a proposed People’s Charter, incorporation of suggestions, and outlining the future course of action to safeguard Goa for future generations. The Charter calls for a ban on all hill development, repeal of zoning-change laws (including retrospective), and a halt to unauthorized projects. All development must follow precautionary principles, with environmental impact studies for village plots. It demands action against officials submitting false reports, removal of illegal CRZ structures, and the eviction of all casinos from the Mandovi River.
