Govt firm on Unity Mall project at Chimbel; Opposition walks into the well demanding its scrapping

Digital Goa, Jan 15 – CM Pramod Sawant informed the House on Thursday that the government owns nearly four lakh square metres of land at Chimbel, of which only two parcels measuring about 20,000 square metres each have been earmarked for the proposed Unity Mall and Prashasan Stambh projects. Sawant added that the government is open to considering the demand for setting up a biodiversity park around the lake. He also assured that no road would be constructed down the lake, as demanded by the residents. He further urged protesting villagers to come forward for discussions. When opposition asked him if the govt would challenge the court order, he said there may be no need to do so and that the legal team will look into the matter.
Opposition MLAs walked into the well of the House, pressing the government to scrap the project.
