Identity cards, financial aid rolled out for traditional occupations: CM on Asmitai Dis

Digital Goa, Jan 16- Identity cards are being issued to those engaged in traditional occupations in Goa, ranging from salt pan workers to toddy tappers, and financial support is also being given to some beneficiaries, CM Pramod Sawant said on Friday. Speaking after the Asmitai Day function in the Capital, CM said his government is committed to balancing development with the preservation of Goa’s traditions. At the function held in Panaji, individuals and groups who played a key role in securing Geographical Indication (GI) tags for Goan products were felicitated. Asmitai Din is observed in Goa on January 16 to commemorate the 1967 Opinion Poll, when Goans voted to retain their distinct identity and reject the merger of Goa with Maharashtra.
