Health Dept warns staff of disciplinary action for unauthorised media statements

    Digital Goa, May 16 – State Health Department has issued a circular restricting press briefings and public statements by its officials, warning that unauthorised communication with the media will invite disciplinary action.The circular, issued by Joint Secretary (Health) on May 14, states that the government has observed certain Health Department officials issuing press briefings and write-ups without prior knowledge or approval. The circular asserts that only designated officials, including the Dean and Medical Superintendent of GMC, Director of Health Services, Chief Medical Officer of NCDCP and DHS, and superintendents of North and South Goa district hospitals, are authorised to issue press briefings, statements or interviews on behalf of the department.
