Govt forms panel to monitor open prisons following Supreme Court order

    Digital Goa, May 21 – The Goa government has constituted a three-member monitoring committee for the management of Open Correctional Institutions (OCIs) in compliance with the Supreme Court’s February 26, 2026 order . The committee comprises Justice Valmiki Menezes as chairperson and IGP Keshav Ram Chaurasia, and Anthony D’Souza, Director NRI as members. The committee has been tasked with ensuring compliance with Supreme Court directions, overseeing the utilization and expansion of open correctional institutions, facilitating the timely transfer of eligible prisoners from closed prisons to OCIs, reviewing implementation progress, and addressing systemic hurdles. It is also expected to submit regular compliance reports to High Court on a regular basis.
