Digital Goa, June 2 – High Court has acquitted a 28-year-old Mizoram native resort staff who was convicted by a trial court in connection with the alleged rape and assault of a 63-year-old resort owner at a North Goa resort in December 2019, holding that the prosecution failed to establish his identity as the assailant beyond reasonable doubt. Court set aside the 2025 conviction and sentence imposed by the Fast Track Special Court (POCSO), which had sentenced the accused to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment for rape and attempted murder. Observing that the prosecution failed to prove the accused was the assailant, the High Court held that the convictions could not stand. The appeal was allowed, the conviction quashed, and the accused ordered to be released forthwith unless required in any other case.
