Digital Goa, July 9 – In a major administrative restructuring of Goa’s maritime sector, the state government has designated the Captain of Ports Department to function as the Goa Maritime Board. The decision, issued via an official gazette notification, operationalises the provisions of the newly enacted central Indian Ports Act, 2025. Under the same directive, the Government of Goa has also appointed the Captain of Ports as the Conservator for all minor ports within the state. The transition to a dedicated Maritime Board is expected to grant the department enhanced statutory powers and greater autonomy to oversee safety, navigation, and infrastructure development across Goa’s inland waterways and minor ports. Both appointments came into effect immediately upon their publication in the Official Gazette. Incidentally, a recent notification of the Indian Ports Act, 2025 by the central government has required every state to align their port administration structures accordingly.
