Digital Goa, July 23 – Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC) on Thursday took suo motu cognisance of complaints by Bethora residents over foul odour and pollution allegedly caused by industrial units, based on a newspaper report published on July 23. The Commission issued notices to six authorities, including the Chief Secretary, Goa State Pollution Control Board, Directorate of Health Services and Directorate of Industries, Trade and Commerce, directing them to submit reports on the matter. The Commission has also sought reports from the Secretary of the Village Panchayat of Bethora-Nirancal-Conxem-Codari and the Health Officer of the Sub-District Hospital, Ponda. All respondents have been directed to appear personally or through authorised representatives and file their reports before the Commission on July 29 at 10.30 am.
