Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC) has taken suo motu cognisance of the ongoing drinking water crisis in Arpora after reports that residents have been without a regular water supply for over a month. The Commission has issued notices to the state government, the Drinking Water Department, the Public Works Department and the Arpora-Nagoa Village Panchayat, directing them to submit reports on the matter. The action follows a newspaper report published on July 24 highlighting that residents were facing a prolonged water shortage while government agencies allegedly shifted responsibility between departments. The Commission has directed the authorities to appear in person or through authorised representatives and file their reports on July 31.
