Digital Goa, August 5 – Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC) has issued notices to the North Goa Collector and the CCP Commissioner on a complaint filed by Rati Kankonkar, wife of social activist Rama Kankonkar, regarding the alleged denial of temporary rain protection during his hunger strike at Azad Maidan in Panaji. In her complaint with the commission, Rati has alleged that Rama Kankonkar, who has been on an peaceful protest and hunger strike since August 1, was forced to remain exposed to heavy monsoon rains after authorities allegedly dismantled a temporary rain-protection shelter. It claims the action endangered his health and violated his fundamental rights under Articles 19 and 21 of the Constitution. Taking cognisance of the matter, the Commission has directed the North Goa Collector and the CCP Commissioner to file their replies. The matter has been posted for hearing on August 24, before the Commission.
