Digital Goa, August 7 – The entire legal and technical process for granting political reservation to Scheduled Tribes (STs) in Goa is expected to be completed within the next two to two-and-a-half months, most probably by November, well before the Model Code of Conduct comes into force for the State Assembly elections which are likely to be scheduled by Feb 2027, Minister Ramesh Tawadkar said on Friday(Aug 7). Speaking after a meeting with CM Pramod Sawant, Tawadkar said the timeline had been conveyed in accordance with guidance from the Central Government. When queried if the required procedures would be completed at least before the MCC comes into effect, he said, “100 %.” Earlier, CM Pramod Sawant had announced that the Central Government will appoint a Census Commissioner soon to determine and verify the Scheduled Tribe population in Goa. The exercise will mark the first formal step towards implementing reservation of Assembly seats for Scheduled Tribes in the state.
