Digital Goa, Sept 11 – Goa taxis will display QR codes, allowing passengers to scan and check government-notified fares, informed MLA Michael Lobo in a joint press conference with taxi operators. The proposal has been granted approval by State Transport Authority in a meeting held yesterday, he added.The initiative will mark the beginning of a common digital platform for all taxi owners in the stat and is being considered as a middle path as taxi operators were not keen on joining an app-based platform, said Lobo. He added that taxis will no longer use meters and the notified fares will also apply to GoaMiles services. The system is expected to ensure greater clarity and transparency in fares for passengers, Lobo asserted.Social activist and taxi operators’ leader Sudip Tamhankar said the solution was suggested by the operators and will help do away with allegations of overcharge levied against the operators. He also informed that the base price for taxi operators has been fixed by the govt and will be notified soon. Depending upon the vehicle, for first 3 km it will be Rs 300, for 3 to 8 km it will be Rs 445 and from thereon per kilometer charges will be applicable.
