Major fire gutted Saba Traders Scrap Yard at Kundaim in the wee hours today, prompting the deployment of over 10 fire tenders. Firefighters battled the blaze for over six hours, working to prevent it from spreading to nearby industries in Kundaim Industrial Estate.Fire tenders from headquarters, Margao, Ponda, Old Goa, Mapusa and Bicholim were called in. A single entry point hampered firefighting. Two JCBs are being used to remove the scrap, mostly cables. Fire personnel said the flames outside had been doused, but extinguishing the fire within the enclosed area would take more time.
