High Court has issued notices to respondents over an allegedly unauthorised casting yard operating on a over 19,000 square-metre plot at Bainguinim, within the Old Goa panchayat jurisdiction. The yard is caring out work related to the Bhoma Highway, informed petitioners counsel Melisa Simoes. Nine petitioners, including residents of four residential complexes and members of Sunshine World School’s Parent-Teacher Association, alleged that excavation and industrial work is being carried out on land designated as residential in the Regional Plan. According to the petitioners, frequent truck movements and work continuing from 8 am until late at night have caused persistent dust, noise and exhaust pollution since September 20, affecting nearby residents, students and school staff. They alleged that work continued despite a stop-work order issued by the Old Goa panchayat on October 5. Alleging that the work is affecting around 3,000 residents and schoolchildren in the surrounding area due to persistent noise, dust and exhaust emissions, the petitioners have sought a halt to operations and restoration of the site. The next hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct 21.
